CLEAR Workshop seriesCLEAR offers a number of inspirational and practical staff development workshops and information sessions which can be customized to meet Faculty requirements. Areas of focus include intercultural competence, communication, facilitation, and teaching skills. The CLEAR Project information session Workshop 1 - Practical facilitation techniques and strategies Workshop 2 - Building intercultural communicative competence (ICC) for better teaching Workshop 3 - Improving teaching and delivery skills Customised Programs The CLEAR Project information sessionDuration: 45 minutes The session presents an overview of the CLEAR project and its current activities. Staff will learn about the types of diversity issues emerging for colleagues at Monash and proposed strategies for dealing with them. An optional focus group forum exploring staff teaching and learning experiences may be added. Workshop 1 - Practical facilitation techniques and strategiesDuration: 2 hours One of the challenges of working with diverse students groups is facilitating student interaction and participation. This interactive workshop will present practical facilitation techniques and strategies for leading small group learning activities such as tutorial discussion and problem-based learning tasks. Participants will share and build on their current knowledge and consider new strategies. Workshop 2 - Building intercultural communicative competence (ICC) for better teachingDuration: 2 hours The aim of this workshop is to assist staff to draw on new knowledge about intercultural communicative competence and to raise awareness of its potential as a communication tool for teaching. Participants will be challenged to reflect on their current practice, share ideas and expertise and consider new strategies and ideas. Workshop 3 - Improving teaching and delivery skillsDuration: 2 hours This workshop will draw upon the expertise of leading Monash teachers who have contributed to the CLEAR project. Recorded excerpts of interviews, lectures and student feedback provide rich material for discussion and reflection. Participants will learn first-hand why these colleagues are regarded by students as exceptional teachers. Participants will consider the role of peer observation and mentoring in teacher development.
