How to use Acknowledgement
Acknowledgement is designed to support learning by individuals and groups of staff in all academic disciplines, through:
- exploring academics' own current practices and their responses to complex issues
- bringing together cases treating a range of academic work scenarios and protocols
- integrating a range of pre-existing academic development resources and activities
Acknowledgement can be used in a range of informal and formal staff development settings, including:
- self-directed learning
- study circles and seminars
- staff meetings and team meetings
- orientation / induction sessions for new staff
- workshops on research and on teaching.
The resources contained in Acknowledgement can be explored as a whole or in part, and in any order. The detailed contents provide direct access to any one of thirty-two topics, and to self-tests, academic stories, case studies and discussion starters within these topics.
A shortlist of suggestions for further reading can be found on the introductory page for each topic. The reference list provides an overview of all the sources used in Acknowledgement. Many references are available as open-access full-text web documents.
Use of Acknowledgement is anonymous. Web forms used in learning activities capture and display a user’s answers, ideas, etc for the duration of a single session only. Users wishing to log their work for later reference may save it as a text file on their local computer.
For further advice on how to use Acknowledgement to suit your circumstances, you are advised to contact Teaching and / or Research staff development support services in your university.
